Agatti which is the Gateway of Lakshadweep, is the only Indian island with an airport. Agatti is a pleasant tourist destination with its satellite islands of Bangaram, Thinnakara and Parali presenting a breathtaking spectacle of sparkling coral reefs, turquoise blue lagoons, silvery beaches and lush green coconut palms that sway to the rhythm of the sea. The island is connected by flight through the Indian Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines and by ship from the port city of Cochin. The flight takes 90 minutes and by ship it is a 22 hour journey. The average transfer time from Agatti airport is a 2 min walk.
The Lakshadweep Islands are a string of 36 little islands, scattered across the Arabian Sea off Kerala, about 200 miles off India’s south west coast. These islands are a treasure trove and have remained secure and hidden from the world for the better part of their history. Riding the rhythms of land and sea, the colours of Agatti Island make sheer poetry, with blues from the sea and sky, merging with the mystic whiteness of pristine beaches and the ravishing greenery of the land.
The Island is the hub of aquatic sports and water adventure activities like kayaking, snorkeling, glass bottom boat sailing, canoeing, skiing and fishing. There are cottages for accommodation and eateries and restaurants they also arrange some of these activities such as scuba diving where tourists can learn diving with a professional guide diver. It’s to be noted that these sightseeing and water sports are subject to weather conditions.
