Nagaland (Nagalim):

Nagaland occupying an hill locked  area of 16,527 sq km sq. km of the Patkai Range at the tri-junction of India,China and Burma . Nagalim, was apportioned between India and Burma.The part which claims is subdivided and placed under four different administrative units:Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland states. The Capital is Khomia. The total population of the state is 2 million and which cover an area of 16,527 sq km is one of the small states of India .

History

 When the British East India Company took over the rein of in 1826 and they steadily expanded their domain over Nagaland. By 1892 they took over the control of whole Nagaland except the Tuensang area in the northeast was governed by the British. After Independence in 1947, the Naglaand was under the province of Assam. . Statehood was officially granted in 1963 after the convention of the Naga People’s that Nagaland should became a constituent and self governing state in the Indian union in July 1960.  The  first ever state-level democratic elections were held in 1964.

Languages spoken in Nagaland include English, Hindi, Nagamese and other local dialects. Religions include Christianity, Hinduism and Islam.

The state is inhabited by 16 major tribes along with other sub tribes.They are Angami, Ao, Chakhesang, Chang, Khiamniungan, Kuki, Konyak, Lotha, Phom, Pochury, Rengma, Sumi, Sangtam, Yimchungru, Zeliang. Each tribe is distinct in character from the other in terms of customs, language and dress.
